Bear Alert!!!
The Colorado State Department of Fish and Wildlife is
advising hikers,
hunters, and fisherman, to take extra precautions and be on the
alert for
both Grizzly and Black bears while in the Dillon, Breckenridge,
and
Keystone areas.
They also advise people to wear noise- producing devices such as
little
bells on their clothing to alert but not startle the bears
unexpectedly. They
also advise carrying pepper spray in case of an encounter with a
bear.
The Grizzly is by far the more dangerous of the two types.
It is also a
good idea to watch for fresh signs of bear activity. People
should become
familiar with the difference between black and grizzly bear
droppings.
Black bear droppings are smaller and contain berries and possibly
squirrel
fur, and may smell like rotten eggs. Grizzly bear
droppings have bells in
them and smell like pepper spray...
